We’re a few weeks out from Father’s Day, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what you’re going to get Dad! I already have a list of fun things Dad might like here – check out my Dad’s Gift Guide here. But what about the card for Dad? Here are some unique and frugal Father’s Day card ideas!
Sappy/Cute Father’s Day Card Ideas
Is your Dad your hero? Yes, this card may look a little cheesy, but for some of us, Dad really is Superman!
Buy this great superhero card here.
Good for you if: You’re going in on a card with younger siblings, your Dad (or you!) really like Superman/superheroes or comics in general.
This card is short but simple, a great ‘I love you, Dad!’ card. The inside simply reads, “Love You, Dad”. There is a lot of room for you to add your own cute message!
Good for you if: You want a simple card to show Dad how much you love him and/or if you want to add your own, longer message.

Cool/Unique Father’s Day Card Ideas
Do you and/or your Dad love camping? Then you should get him this really cool pop-up camping card! There’s plenty of room on the side to write your own note, plus pop-up cards for adults aren’t very common.
Good for your if: You and your Dad have bonded over camping, Dad likes camping, or you’re looking for a novel, fun outdoorsy card.
Being from the Southwest, I can’t escape cute cards like this cactus sombrero pop-up card. Does it make sense for Father’s Day? Maybe not. Is it cute and fun? Yes!
Good for you if: You or your Dad have lived/live/or like the Southwest, if you’re into funny, random cards, if you’re looking for something truly unique that your Dad would not expect.

Sassy/Sarcastic Father’s Day Card Ideas
This card is perfect if your Dad is one of those guys who acts excited you’ve finally moved out. The card reads, Fatherhood is full of challenges… then they move out!
Good for you if: Your Dad makes jokes about you/your siblings moving out, but secretly he misses you, your Dad actually definitely misses you and you tease him about how you moved out.
This is probably the card I will get for my Dad – and I turned out amazing, you’re welcome card. Basically, it’s a twofer: you’re telling Dad ‘happy father’s day’ and praising him for raising such a great kid (you), and you’re high-fiving yourself for being awesome.
Good for you if: You and your Dad take credit for how awesome you turned out, if your Dad makes jokes either about “raising such a great kid” or trying to shift the credit to Mom for raising such a great kid.
Honestly, almost any of these cards would be perfect for my Dad, depending on what mood I’m in when I finally decide to buy a card. While you definitely don’t have to get your Dad a card for Father’s Day, it is an easy thing to get if you live far from your Dad (and can’t ship him a gift) or he’s one of those Dads who insists on “no gifts!”
One thing I’ve always enjoyed about the cards my family gets for holidays/birthdays is looking at them years later. My Mom always saved cards I gave them when I was growing up, and it was fun seeing my hand writing change and the funny/random stuff I would write to my parents.
Now that I’m older, the cards are a lot more uniform in their message, but I always try to write one thing I’m grateful for about the person I’m getting the card for. It’s nice to reflect a little on gratitude, your parents’ (or friends’) importance to you. Even if you never see the card again because it’s lost or thrown away, the 5-10 minutes it takes you to write down your positive thoughts is nice for you and the recipient. Plus, cards are cheaper than most gifts!
