I know it’s not 2019 yet, but listen. I can’t hold back anymore about how awesome and useful these blogs are below. Are you a Millennial woman who feels like no one is talking about personal finance for you? There are personal finance blogs for so many groups of people, and there are commercialized sites that want to sell you stuff (but have tidbits of useful info, too!) – but what about personal blogs that actually are helpful for you?
I’ve been writing, reading, and practically breathing personal finance for almost 5 years, and I’ve seen the tides shift away from authentic, ‘let me tell you the real story of this debt!’ toward commercialized ‘buy this and you’ll be on the path to financial freedom!’ (I sound like an old timer now, haha!)
And all of that is great – there’s definitely a time and place for sanitized, corporate info. It’s like going to WebMD to search weird symptoms/diseases vs. going to a blog – WebMD will give me the facts of what’s going on, someone’s blog will actually show me what it’s like to go through treatment/try a medicine/etc.
All this to say: the blogs listed below are some of my absolute favorite for understanding and living personal finance. On these blogs, you’ll find real information from real people writing about their real lives. Many of the bloggers listed below are good friends of mine – because they’re real! They actually want to get to know you as a reader!
Plus, they’re helpful. From Less Debt More Wine, I learned I should not consolidate my loans from federal to private – that would have been hella dumb! From The Practical Penny, I learned about my favorite meal planning service ever (The Dinner Daily, which has saved me hundreds of dollars). From Simplistic Steph, I learned to get over my hangups of talking about debt. Lots of people have debt! If it makes them uncomfortable to hear it, too bad!
There’s way more I could talk about (Tasha from One Big Happy Life talking about her family really resonates with me, Natalie Bacon made me want to start my own business, Chelsea created a seriously life-changing emergency binder, etc.) but I’ll stop and let you discover them all below.
Millennial Women Blogs to Follow in 2019
Okay, so not everyone listed below is a Millennial, I just realized. So this is a Millennial-ish list of women bloggers to follow in 2019 🙂
- Michelle is Money Hungry – I’ve known Michelle for a long time (in the sense that I’ve known of her from FinCon), but only within the last year did I seriously start following her (in a non-stalker way!) Michelle is real when it comes to paying off debt and hustling. In fact, I don’t know what I admire more about Michelle: how she paid off debt or how hard she hustles. If you want some inspiration for debt repayment OR hustling, check out Michelle!
- The Practical Penny features ways to optimize your spending and to find practical financial solutions to life’s challenges. This is your guide to a happier life of financial freedom! Also, Lauren knows food. Like I said, Dinner Daily!!
- Miss Millennia Magazine is the big sister who gives you great advice on your health, wealth, and career. It’s geared towards millennial women who want help figuring out life’s tough choices and want support along the way.
- One Big Happy Life is one family’s story about creating life balance, finding happiness, and gaining financial independence all at the same time. They share great finance and life tips to help you create the life you want! Also, Tasha and Joseph are extremely nice people – exactly the kind of people you want to support and get inspiration from!
- The Kay Saga documents Kamika’s debt free journey, covering a wide variety of personal finance topics. Millennials will find lots of relevant financial advice from Kamika, in a practical yet approachable way.
- Mama Fish Saves is an excellent resource for those raising a family on a budget. Chelsea is a family finance blogger who thinks of everything – she’s even created an “in case of emergency” binder that covers everything your family needs to document in case of… well, emergency!
- Believe in a Budget is so much more than just budgeting. Kristin is the queen of budgeting, side hustling, Pinterest, and starting businesses. Yes, I said businesses. If you think that there’s not enough time in the day to do it all, follow Kristin and she’ll show you how she does it all. It’s real – Kristin’s honest about her struggles. But she also shows you how she works through it to be successful, which is what I love when I’m feeling down about a project I’m working on!
- Horkey Handbook is the blog you want to follow if you want to be a mompreneur. What’s a mompreneur? A mom with her own business! Much like Kristin, Gina is a successful entrepreneur who originally blogged about personal finance (and side hustling and entrepreneurship). However, Gina is a mom, meaning her time is even more constrained than someone, like me, without kiddos. Yet Gina still manages to do it all – and she shows you how. It’s not about being Supermom, it’s about doing what you can do and outsourcing the rest. It’s a great blog to remind yourself you don’t have to do all the things to be successful!
- Miriam Ballesteros has a background in Marketing and Communications, but found passion in helping other women make smart financial and career choices. You’ll find all of her advice and more on her blog!
- Budget With Belle is a millennial mom and personal finance enthusiast! You’ll find ways to budget your household, including everything from low-cost healthy recipes to gift shopping on a budget!
- Millennial Boss is a twenty-something with a knack for finding ways to do luxury on a budget! She’s paid off $100k of debt already too. I follow her for inspiration on paying off debt while also not sacrificing on things that are important to me.
- She Picks Up Pennies: this mom and teacher paid off serious debt, and is now looking to live more purposefully and enjoy financial freedom… one cent at a time!
- Simplify This Home features ways to live a healthy, happy, and debt-free life! Summer helps you simplify homemaking routines while saving money at the same time.
- Natalie Bacon is a former lawyer, turned financial planner, turned super-successful entrepreneur and blogger. She has some awesome advice about money management, personal development, starting your own blog, and how to design your dream life! As I said above, Natalie was one of my very first inspirations to realize… yeah, I could be my own boss!
- Less Debt More Wine is all about getting rid of massive student loan debt, while still enjoying life at the same time! It’s all about finding balance between your money related goals and non-money related goals.
- Clever Girl Finance: their mission is increasing financial literacy in women. They seek to empower women to make their own decisions, and live a life with financial freedom.
- Smile & Conquer: Sarah has worked in the finance field for several years and enjoys combining her love of finance with blogging. She covers all finance topics from debt to investing!
- The Land of Milk and Money shows readers how to travel the world and retire early by managing their finances strategically. Some of Queen Money Bee’s favorite rules to live by: “save more than you spend” and “make your money work for you.”
- Lydia Lois blogs about living a minimalist but full and happy life at the same time! She believes you don’t need to BUY your way to happiness or success – something I strongly agree with!
- Life of Stones helps readers get a financial makeover! Kristin found success with her finances and is passionate about helping others do the same.
- Simplistic Steph is the type of blog I love – someone in the trenches, who had debt and worked to pay it off, all while living a busy life! Sound familiar? 🙂 Steph is real about her life and finances, and covers everything from job loss to debt pay off and so much more. She’s also hilarious on Twitter. Check her out!
One thing all of these blogs have in common is camaraderie – I never would have discovered these blogs if they weren’t active in Twitter or Facebook groups. I learned a lot about these inspirational women because they asked questions online, shared advice, and supported one another publicly.
The Big News
In two weeks, I’ll be launching a blogging membership site with three close friends. The membership site is designed for people who are already blogging, but feel kind of stuck. If this is you, you might have questions like:
- How do I find my niche and connect with people like me?
- How can I grow my blog and make it fun and profitable?
- How can I help people? What do they need?
I’m really excited about this membership site, called the Badass Blog Society, because I’ve been in a lot of membership and blogging courses. I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of money on blogging courses.
And eventually, they all stop helping me. The course creators move on to some other project, or they hand off their course/membership site to virtual assistants and never answer questions.
This membership site will be different for one key reason: there are four of us to help you! To run a successful membership for bloggers, you have to be there. And with four of us, we’ll always be there to help you out. We each have specialized skills (some of us are great at tech, others with monetizing and social media).
It took me (and us) a long time to create this membership society because we wanted it to be the best. We all have been jaded by courses that promise the moon but never deliver. Badass Blog Society will be there for you throughout every step of your blogging journey – it’s the membership site I wanted to see when I was growing my blog.
You can sign up to learn more about the Badass Blog Society here and, while you’re there, download our ebook on successful tips from pro bloggers. I seriously shared some of the best of my knowledge there, as did the others, so make sure to download the ebook!
